Coronavirus COVID-19

Coronavirus COVID-19

What are Coronaviruses?

Coronaviruses (CoV) are viruses that appear periodically in different areas of the world and cause Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI), that is, flu, which can be mild, moderate or severe. The new Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been classified by the World Health Organization as a public health emergency of international concern (ESPII). Cases have been identified on all continents and, on March 6, the first case was confirmed in Colombia.

How are they transmitted?

Infection occurs when a sick person coughs or sneezes and expels virus particles that come into contact with other people. This mechanism is similar among all Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI).

What have been the prevention measures adopted in our country?

The Ministry of Health and the National Institute of Health have defined guidelines for the screening of travelers entering the country, for the management of workers who come from countries with the circulation of COVID-19 and recommendations for people traveling from Colombia to countries with circulation of COVID - 19. Additionally, protocols have been defined for the Departmental and Municipal Health Secretariats to carry out joint work that allows us to detect early and contain cases in the national territory. In turn, the EPS have received the necessary guidelines and support so that in case of having positive cases, we can provide timely attention, which allows us to obtain the necessary tests for the detection of cases on time.
